Sean Hanna - PEMG Principal Biographical Sketch

  • Educated in the United Kingdom, graduating from Nottingham University with a BSc. in Chemical Engineering
  • Work History – 28 years experience in precision manufacturing based in the United States, 24 of those as a Manager and Project Leader.
  • A broad spectrum of work environments including process development and pilot line start-up, process design for large scale factory, qualification and ramp of full production line, continuous improvement of mass production, intensive cost cutting in mass production, quality assurance and applications.
  • Types of manufacturing experience: Custom job shop / High volume commodity manufacturing / Clean room / Machine shop. However, my methodology and tools are applicable to any business process.
  • Involved since the early 80s in systematic improvement of quality, yield, cost, cycle and lead time. There were many programs and acronyms, but when the hype dies down, there remains a fundamental and essential toolset that I use to help clients, which include:

Deming (Plan/Do/Check/Act) – Crosby (Zero Defects) – Statistical Process and Gage Control – Quality Circles – TQM – Formal project management - Ishikawa 7 basic tools – Taguchi design optimization – Toyota production system – JIT – Mistake proofing – Quick change out. And, eventually, onto today’s Six Sigma and Lean packages.

  • Extensive experience with Asian and UK business culture.
  • Successfully led more than 20 projects designed to improve quality and reduce cost. Steered overall programs by managing groups of project leaders. Familiar with PMI methodology.
  • Since early 2006, in business for myself as the owner of PEMG supplying management outsourcing services specializing in process improvement.
  • Examples of completed project for clients under PEMG include:
    • Design and implementation of full SPC system (>10 stations).
    • Design and implementation of manufacturing database and reporting system.
    • Design and implementation of manufacturing database and reporting system
    • Designed and implemented a metrology control system for all critical gages.
    • Produced and presented multi-session SPC training course.
    • Methodology and execution of projects for new products.
    • Data mining identifying large yield improvement opportunities, i.e 10->20% improvement to the bottom line.
